ITEC Seminars For Energy Conservation Technicians

  • NORA oil tanks and fuel performance seminar

| Oct 1, 2008 |The comfort, cleanliness, safety and efficiency of today’s Oilheat systems are dependent on clean, uncontaminated fuel reaching the burner. To achieve that we must properly install and maintain tanks. This seminar addresses the concerns and issues surrounding the installation, maintenance and replacement of fuel oil storage tanks. It suggests preventative measures service technicians should take to  avoid problems and ways to diagnose & solve oil storage problems when they encounter them.

T he seminar is based upon the following NORA books: Heating Oil Storage Tanks, Guide for Quality Installation and Maintenance, and  A Guide to Fuel Performance, The NORA Fuel Quality Manual. [Purchased Separately]

Seminar participants who pass a test at the conclusion of the seminar will be awarded the NORA Tank Installation and Maintenance Certification.

The seminar covers why oil tanks fail, external and internal corrosion, the role of water in fuel problems and tank failures, tank selection, sizing and placement, installation procedures, spill prevention, proper tank abandonment, tank inspection, and assessment. Other topics include tank bottom sediment, build-up on nozzles and heads and cold oil performance problems.

  • Beckett-tekmar controls

| October 2, 2008  | The Beckett GeniSys™ Advanced Burner Control is a 120 Vac primary safety control for residential and light commercial oil burners used in boiler, furnace, and water heater applications. Thermostat and boiler control compatible. The HeatManager™ fuel economizer is the newest advance in boiler controls for residential boilers. It works with any fuel, and improves hot water home heating systems. And, it's guaranteed to reduce heating fuel consumption by at least 10%! Beckett HeatManager™ boiler controls improve the efficiency of most residential boiler home heating systems, resulting in fuel and energy savings.  The overall operation of a heating, ventilation and cooling system can be optimized by a TEKMAR Outdoor Reset Control. Outdoor Reset Controls include Energy Saving features that provide a return on investment with lower heating bills, while reducing impact on the environment. These controls specialize in operating the system at maximum efficiency while maintaining priority for other devices when needed. TEKMAR controls are typically used in hydronic heating systems to increase the level of comfort and reliability. The addition of control for domestic hot water, forced air heating, ventilation and cooling provides for an all-inclusive system. Components range from thermostats and sensors to outdoor reset controls and automatic snow & ice detectors. October 2, 2008, 8.30am to 12.30pm

  • energy conservation audits-Your Next Business Expansion Opportunity

| October 22, 2008  |ICPA’s surveys of Connecticut consumers confirms time and again that our HVAC technicians, our own Energy Conservation Technicians, are rated near the very top of those whom consumers respect for information about energy issues. Our HVAC techs are credible, respected, and unlike almost any other profession we are in the homes of 682,000 consumers already - so what else can we do for our consumers since we're already there and so respected? The whole home energy audit.

Did you lay off techs in mid-winter because consumers decided to delay work being done? Imagine that anyone would delay improving energy efficiency when they had a hard time paying for energy? This is about marketing and positioning what we do for success—and learning some new skills based on what we can do now for our customers. We can already use our skills with HVAC systems to help save energy-if we market our HVAC departments as Energy Conservation Departments.

Now we can use our unique position of understanding the demographics of a changing population of consumers — and our position of being inside the home — to assist our customers with energy conservation all around the home. Expanding into saving electricity, improving insulation, reducing heat and cooling losses, control systems and looking at improving appliances and lighting. You can tailor the program to meet your customers needs. We’ll give you a step-by-step process to conduct an energy audit and suggest the tools needed to perform the audit and advise your customers in ways to save money through energy conservation. The State of Connecticut appropriated $7 million to subsidize energy audits peformed by "qualified oil dealers," and the CT Office of Policy & Management has selected this program as qualifying an oil dealer to perform these whole-home energy audits.
