A Message from Michelle Carpentier – ICPA’s New Executive Director

If you were among the lucky ones who attended our Annual General Meeting last October in Bucharest, Romania, you probably know that ICPA has a new Executive Director. It is with great pleasure that I accepted the ICPA Executive Director role, after a beautiful and challenging 33 years career with the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). I now feel very fortunate to be part of the fantastic ICPA organization and the Global Corrections Community.

I have started my career as a Correctional Officer in 1984 following a Bachelor degree in Criminology at the University of Montreal. Over my years with the Correctional Service, I have held various positions from frontline, such as: Parole Officer, Program Officer, to supervisor as Offender Employability Manager, Learning Programs Director, to senior management positions, such as Director of Information Sharing and Director of Intergovernmental Relations. I also had the privilege to be seconded to the United Mission in Haiti for 20 months as a Senior Correctional Advisor and Mentor. That was a tremendously rewarding experience, both on a professional and personal level.

Now close to retirement but still wanting to contribute, I will use my knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to serve ICPA in promoting ethical, efficient and effective community and custodial corrections around the globe. I will work with our Board and members in advancing professional and humane prisons and corrections worldwide. I hope to meet many of you at our Annual Conference in London, UK – October 22 to 27, 2017.

Warm Regards,
