Mindfulness is a form of meditation that involves being totally in the present moment. It involves observing what is happening with a calm, non-judgmental awareness, allowing thoughts and feelings to come and go without getting caught up in them. The aim is to concentrate only on what is happening in the here and now, not in the past or the future. This booklet provides exercises.

This toolkit identifies self-care activities that could be useful in engaging prisoners in quarantine. A range of work is underway within individual prisons to: • adapt existing services to allow for continued support (e.g. AOD, reintegration and family safety planning) • provide additional materials to keep prisoners active and engaged (e.g. puzzles, craft activities, board games) This toolkit is intended to supplement these activities. The focus of the toolkit is on calming activities that prisoners can undertake themselves or with minimal guidance.
