Emilie Schmits has a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Liège (2010), an University Certificate in Consumption practices and addictive behaviors: prevention, follow-up and treatment” from the Catholic University of Louvain (2014), and holds a Ph.D in Psychology from the University of Liège (2015). She did scientific research in the department of clinical psychology of delinquency (ULiège) and her research concerned substance use among adolescents and adults, especially alcohol and cannabis users, focusing on the relationship with psychopathological symptoms and the influence of effects expectancies and social factors. Her activities also included teaching and mentoring students and professionals. She has created the University Certificate in “Clinical approach and care for alcohol, drug and gambling users” (ULiège).
She also works as a clinical psychologist in drugs field and is in daily contact with adults substance users. Her clinical experience ranges from youth protection institution (IPPJ) to mental health center (SSM), including psychiatric emergencies (UMPS). She first joined the pilot project Drugs and Detention (Macadam, Fedito wallonne, EP Lantin, Liège) as a clinical psychologist, but now coordinates the team and deploys the project. She is a liaison agent between the various actors involved in the project, in the addiction and prison sectors.
