Parallel Workshops
This session explores how Romania is addressing one of the most critical gaps in corrections: continuity of care from custody to community. Through a partnership between the Romanian Prison Service (NAP), AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), and the NGO Vis Juventum, a “health through walls” model has been developed to ensure that people, especially those with complex health needs, do not fall through the cracks after release.
Rather than working in isolation, these organizations have built a coordinated system that connects prison-based care with community services, supporting individuals before and after release. The presentation will share how this collaboration works in practice, the challenges encountered, and the lessons learned.
Participants will gain practical insights into building effective justice–health partnerships, improving reintegration outcomes, and strengthening continuity of care in their own contexts.
