Parallel Workshops
This workshop examines how stronger collaboration between researchers and criminal justice practitioners can improve the development and implementation of evidence-informed correctional interventions. Focusing on the persistent gap between research and practice, the presentation focuses on how practitioner-developed innovations can be strengthened through academic partnership, evaluation, and research-informed refinement. Using a case study centered on a cognitive-behavioral intervention for individuals convicted of firearm-related offenses, participants will explore strategies for identifying correctional needs, designing targeted programming, integrating empirical evidence into practice, and building sustainable partnerships between agencies and academic institutions. The workshop emphasizes practical approaches to advancing evidence-based practices and improving outcomes within correctional settings.
Dr. Bryanna Davis is a criminal justice educator, researcher, and practitioner with over a decade of experience in juvenile justice and community corrections, dedicated to the implementation of evidence-based practices, program and policy development, and data collection and analysis. She is the founder and principal consultant for The Davis Justice Group and author of “Redeeming Justice: How Faith Transforms Our Work and Purpose.” Currently, Dr. Davis serves as an adjunct faculty member and is a Deputy Court Administrator for the 23rd Judicial District in Pennsylvania, where she oversees the coordination of court services and judicial administrative operations, conducts research, development, and implementation of court programs, policies, and procedures, and manages the courts’ fiscal operations.
Holding a doctorate in criminal justice from California University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Davis is an experienced conference presenter and certified trainer in evidence-based practices with contributions to national and state-level criminal justice organizations. She co-chairs the Pennsylvania Partnership for Criminal Justice Improvement’s Data and Quality Assurance Workgroup as well as the Social Media Committee for the Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences. Her professional work reflects a commitment to bridging theory and practice, ensuring that policy, education, and justice system initiatives are grounded in research and geared toward meaningful change.
