Since the dynamics of the criminal justice system differ through countries, the challenges of the detention facilities go through changes. However, it would be fair to say that design principles of prison facilities are determined on the basis of detention and surveillance of inmates but not considered as a work environment for correction officers who serves. Accordingly, this presentation focuses on prison environment as the workplace of correctional officers and aims to explore the spatial design conditions to provide supportive surroundings for officers. Accordingly, this work discusses spatial considerations under three titles: common-social areas, semi-private break areas and individual space.
