Veterans in custody represent a distinct group whose experiences of military service, trauma, and transition to civilian life can create unique challenges within the prison environment. This presentation explores the Veterans Well-Being Hub at Maghaberry Prison which is a person-centred initiative designed to support veterans through tailored care, peer mentorship, trauma-informed mental health support, and multi-agency collaboration.

The hub brings together statutory services, veteran organisations, and support providers to promote wellbeing, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration. By addressing the specific needs of veterans and building pathways to support beyond custody, the initiative has demonstrated positive outcomes in engagement, wellbeing, and rehabilitation.
