The Independent Advisory Panel on Deaths in Custody (IAPDC), provide independent expert advice to the government in England & Wales to prevent deaths in all forms of state custody. As such, the IAPDC has a unique perspective on the lessons to be learned between different detention settings - and on the importance of building collaboration and partnerships between them. In this session, panel members will discuss their current work to understand and advise on the prevention strategies drawing on their own multidisciplinary expertise and on the partnerships they have built across prisons, secure hospitals, police and immigration detention. This work includes projecting the impact of population pressures on the future numbers of prison deaths and cross-sector partnerships between all state custody setting to better understand the needs of families when a loved dies in custody.
