Creating Live virtual and therapeutic offending behaviour programs (PID062)

1.50pm – 2.25pm ACST, 24 May 2023 ‐ 35 mins

Parallel Workshops

CSNSW pre-COVID wanted to increase access to offenders to engage in therapeutic programs. There were cohorts that needed additional support to engage in programs including Aboriginal offenders remaining on country, people with a disability, offenders in rural locations, offenders with work commitments and primary carers of children. Technology was a potential enabler, however, there was a degree of scepticism as to whether a therapeutic environment could be achieved on a virtual platform. CSNSW wanted to prove it could be done – that there is a human aspect to the technology.

This session takes you on journey to understand best practice, the development of strategy to transform offender rehabilitation through digital technology and the journey to ensure the human aspect of technology thrives. There were several key challenges explored along the way:

- Victim Safety
- Creating a therapeutic environment
- Translating programs into an online platform
- Privacy
- Risk Assessment
