Sport in Prison: More than an Individual Tool for Social Reintegration; A Collective Tool for Social Cohesion (PID064)

11.30am – 12pm EDT, 25 October 2023 ‐ 30 mins

Workshop Session

In 2021, a pilot project to train UEFA D trainers was developed in Belgian prisons. The particularity of this project is to involve different political and sport structures, but above all to include civil society as an active partner through internships with young people in football clubs. This project has developed an unprecedented penitentiary and reintegration policy. It has led to the development of a dynamic and participative risk management policy. Beyond a new project for social reintegration, it is above all a tool for social cohesion, enabling everyone to take their place as citizens and actors in the execution of sentences and in the – often chaotic – return of prisoners to civil society.
