Normalized design is becoming a common deliverable for many designers. But what is normal prison design? Numerous facilities have been recently completed around the world which have advanced the yardsticks with respect to delivering more dignified and empowering environments that go beyond current norms, but those models are almost exclusively directed towards long term stay facilities. The presentation will explore recent Canadian prison designs which are addressing the issue of normalization within those often-ignored environments.
