He aha te huarahi? I runga, I te tika, te pono, me te aroha.
What is the pathway? It is doing what is right, with integrity, and compassion.
I open with this whakataukī (Māori proverb) as it exemplifies core principles underpinning my own intrinsic value system and how I approach my mahi (work). I am driven to be tika (to be correct and fair, right action), pono (to act with honesty and integrity), and show aroha (care and compassion) for all people.
Who am i? My name is Alice Jakowitsch. I was born in Austria and raised in Kūaotunu in the Coromandel Peninsula. I completed my original University degree at Victoria University of Wellington in 2006 being awarded a Bachelor of Science (Psychology & Criminology) with first class Honours. I have been employed by Ara Poutama (Department of Corrections) since 2013; initially as a Programme Facilitator, then as a Practice Supervisor for the team. Between 2018-2020 I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Arts (Clinical Psychology) through Massey University alongside this work.
In 2021, I was awarded a Departmental scholarship to complete my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology leading to my current position within the North Auckland Psychologists' Office based at Auckland Prison. I have an authentic and warm therapeutic style and pride myself on a collaborative, strengths-based, and compassionate approach to my practice. I’m also a late diagnosed ADHD women so passionately advocate within the neurodiversity space for responsive practice and equity.
