The Risk Screener-Youth. A Novel Tool for Easy and Efficient Evaluation of Recidivism Risk in Juveniles and Young Adults (PID076)

2.30pm – 3pm EDT, 25 October 2023 ‐ 30 mins

Workshop Session

In order to make risk evaluation feasible for all individuals in forensic treatment and supervision settings for juveniles and young adults, a novel youth risk screening tool was developed for the easy and efficient screening of concerns about risk for violence and/or non-violent criminal behavior: the Risk Screener Youth (RS-Y). Both the professional rated version and the self-assessment version have recently been implemented across various settings in The Netherlands. In this presentation the RS-Y will be introduced and user experiences as well as promising research results with the tool will be shared. Moreover, the value of risk and protective factor based risk screening for the guidance of forensic treatment and risk management will be demonstrated. Finally, implementation strategies for prison, supervision and clinical practice will be highlighted and the potential use of the RS-Y in other settings and countries will be discussed.
