Emerging Security Technologies in Corrections (PID041)

9.15am – 9.52am ACST, 25 May 2023 ‐ 37 mins

Parallel Workshops

Security technologies available to corrections facilities are constantly evolving. However, the unique range of operational and security requirements within these facilities are reliant on highly available, proven and reliable technologies. This can create a challenge for operators and jurisdictions in justifying the adoption of emerging technologies over legacy products until these technologies are suitably road-tested and proven.

SCG will describe the challenges and opportunities for corrections operators in replacing legacy systems and in adopting emerging security technologies. The paper will present case studies from jurisdictions across the country where new MDAS and PSIM technologies are being adopted; and propose a framework for strategic thinking around the enablement of new technologies such as Secure Wi-Fi in a corrections environment.
