Implementing the Nelson Mandela Rules in Juvenile Correctional Facilities: Challenges and Opportunities. Let us talk about how we can make a real difference in the lives of young people in correctional facilities. This presentation examines the application of the Nelson Mandela Rules within juvenile correctional facilities, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities for promoting humane treatment and rehabilitation. It draws on case studies from countries like Norway and South Africa to illustrate effective strategies that enhance the dignity and rights of young offenders and what we can learn from their approaches.

From evidence-based programs that help young offenders turn their lives around, to the role technology can play in supporting their reintegration into society, we will dive into the challenges and successes that can inform our own policy reforms. The goal is simple: to prioritize rehabilitation, dignity and social reintegration for young people who need a second chance.
