Room: Meeting Room 2A (Level 3)

Parallel Workshops

This session introduces Northern Ireland’s new Bail Support Pilot Scheme for women, launching in October, which aims to provide a viable alternative to remand by supporting women to remain safely within their communities. Offering wrap-around support, including accommodation and interventions to address offending-related behaviours, the scheme seeks to reduce disruption to employment, housing, and family relationships.

Drawing on learning from Scotland, England and Wales, and New Zealand, the initiative aims to break cycles of offending, reduce the remand population, and address the impact of intergenerational trauma. The pilot supports rehabilitation, strengthens community outcomes, and promotes a more effective and sustainable justice system.
