The Development of a National Healthy Prisons Framework in the Irish Prison Service (PID210)

1.30pm – 2pm GMT+03:00, 28 October 2025 ‐ 30 mins

Thematic Workshop Sessions

Following WHO recommendations and an Irish whole of government approach for health promotion, the Irish Prison Service has developed a 'Healthy Prisons' framework. The aim of this framework is to highlight good examples of health promotion activities already in place in prisons and to promote a standardised approach to health promotion across the prison estate. It is a key priority of this framework to recognise that prisons are both a place of work for staff and a home for prisoners and the framework will aim to ensure that both of these cohorts are catered for as we strive to create health prison environments.
