Nanshin Nancy Kumtap is a Legal practitioner, correctional administrator, and human rights advocate serving as Head of the Legal Unit, Nigerian Correctional Service, Plateau State Command, Jos, Nigeria. She ranks as a Chief Superintendent of Corrections in hierachy, With over a decade of experience in penal administration, criminal justice reform, and non-custodial measures
She holds Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees from the University of Jos and is a Barrister-at-Law of the Nigerian Law School
Her professional practice spans legal advisory services, policy development, human rights compliance, offender rehabilitation frameworks, and coordination of non-custodial measures within correctional administration, management of internal and external conflicts.
She serves on several strategic committees: Plateau State Justice Sector Reform Team, the Penal Laws Review Committee, the Restorative Justice Steering Committee, the Child’s Rights Law Implementation Committee, and the Women Security and Peace Architecture Case Management Committee on Gender-Based Violence. Through these platforms, she contributes to justice sector reform, legal harmonisation, and multi-agency coordination.
At the international and professional level, she is affiliated with the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), the Restorative Justice Council (United Kingdom), Amnesty International, the International Gender Advocates Coalition for Action, and is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (Jos Branch).
