Bart De Wever has been general chairman of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) since 2004. Since 2004, he has served as a representative in several of the country’s parliaments. From 2013 on Bart has been the mayor of Antwerp, the largest city in Flanders.

Bart studied history at Ufsia and KU Leuven. During his student days he was a member of the Liberaal Vlaams Studenten Verbond and of the Katholiek Vlaams Hoogstudentenverbond. He was also editor-in-chief of “Tegenstroom” and “Ons Leven”.

Bart De Wever studied history and worked for a time as an assistant at KU Leuven. He is fascinated by the figure of Julius Caesar and possesses an almost inexhaustible knowledge of Ancient Rome. His Latin expressions are already legendary in Belgium. One example is ‘Nil Volentibus Arduum’: ‘Nothing is impossible for the willing’, which also subtly refers to his party’s name.
