Against the backdrop of COVID recovery, this workshop will examine how a focus on humanity, connection, belonging and trust will repair prison communities and extend to local communities. It will outline the Growth methodology, a new emerging theory that was derived from examining exceptional penal practice. This methodology focuses on co-producing sustainable solutions within the Criminal Justice System and is integrated with Lewis’s dynamic model of therapeutic correctional relationships, to magnify the meaning and strength of practice.
This workshop will present the Growth methodology and principles of Growth, outlining through digital work the ambitions for the future and the impact of this work so far. It will then focus heavily on the professional challenges the delegates are facing, providing collective support, and creating a space to learn from one another. It will not only focus on those who have offended but consider the people who experience carceral spaces (including staff, leaders, and families).
This workshop will share what is being done to drive a Growth revolution in the UK and the ambitions for the future, to make a global impact, with collective social value at the heart of this cultural change initiative.
