Parallel Workshops
Carceral and community corrections organizations continually work to improve both their efficiency and effectiveness in ways that benefit individuals under supervision, staff, and broader communities. However, often, the ways these agencies create or adopt programs and/or reform do not meet their stated goals, and regularly, they are either un- or under-studied and/or yield a host of unanticipated consequences that cause further challenges. This presentation will introduce audience members to a host of evidence-based and scientifically driven strategies framed by both organizational theory and implementation science and will provide resources and tools for future correctional implementation efforts. Attendees will learn a variety of techniques for creating strong and intentional research-practitioner partnerships including where to find, how to establish, and how to sustain these collaborative relationships. Attendees will also leave this session with a better sense of both process and outcome measurement to ensure any changes/reforms they implement are scientifically informed, scientifically evaluated, and do not simply fall into the trap of being grounded only in hope and good intentions.
