Revolutionising Prison Environments: The Power of Data and Technology in Saving Lives (PID042)

10.25am – 11am EDT, 23 April 2024 ‐ 35 mins

Room: Meeting Room 8

Parallel Workshop Session

In a world with 11 million people imprisoned, addressing mental health in prisons is paramount due to the elevated risk of suicide and self-harm. The "Alert. Intervene. Monitor" (AIM) app, born from a Serco Prisons proof of concept, Unilink’s development and now a multi-agency collaboration, could be a lifesaving tool. AIM dives deep into prisoner interactions, offering insights to help tackle vulnerabilities, especially suicide and self-harm.

AIM's innovation goes further by integrating risk factor analysis. It identifies over 40 risk factors, both static and dynamic, to assist prediction of self-harm and suicide risks in real time.

This application gives key workers within prisons a further analytical tool that can be used to highlight those potentially at higher risk of suicide and self-harm through varying different methods and potentially save lives.
