The value of lived experience working within the correctional setting is vital to the improved health outcomes of those that are incarcerated. Over the years we have overcome many barriers for people with lived experience of prisons being able to become a member of staff within the prisons. Having ex prisoners working in the prison setting carry keys and be respected as a core member of staff is so empowering for those that belief they will never be able to work with in the setting after being a prisoner. Using this model improves trust, removes  stigma, increases engagement by the prisoners. We would say the added bonus is that using lived experience also decreases the risk of staff vacancy's, as its pool of people taht work effectively within the prison setting.
