Erika Te Hiwi

Erika Te Hiwi (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Kahungunu) is a registered clinical psychologist with a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology from Victoria University of Wellington. Since 2014, she has worked extensively across correctional environments—both in prison and the community—with men and women, in roles spanning rehabilitation, reintegration, and mental health, including trauma-focused work.
Erika is an experienced educator, regularly delivering lectures and presentations to forensic and psychology students, as well as public audiences. Her research and professional interests include trauma, suicide prevention, racism, and culturally responsive practice, with a particular commitment to addressing the inequities faced by Māori in the justice system. She is passionate about integrating Indigenous knowledge and values into rehabilitation practice, ensuring interventions are both effective and culturally grounded.
