Dr Yahia El Karfa
Clinical Health Psychologist and Ph.D. Researcher in AI-Supported Psychotherapy, University Ibn Tofail – Laboratory of Human, Society and Values, Morocco
Yahia El Karfa is a Clinical Health Psychologist and Ph.D. researcher at the Laboratory of Human, Society and Values, University Ibn Tofail, Morocco. His doctoral work explores the integration of artificial intelligence into psychotherapy and clinical health psychology to develop innovative, evidence-based frameworks that are both technologically advanced and profoundly human-centered—grounded in ethics, empathy, and human dignity.
With a multidisciplinary background that bridges psychology, computer science, and artificial intelligence, El Karfa investigates how digital innovation can enhance the early detection of psychological distress, optimize AI-assisted therapeutic interventions, and improve rehabilitation outcomes for vulnerable and institutionalized populations. His academic portfolio also includes research in criminal psychology and offender personality, through which he examines the cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors shaping deviant behavior and moral rehabilitation.
Drawing on clinical experience in psychiatric hospitals, family courts, and victim support units, El Karfa combines practical therapeutic insight with scientific innovation to propose humane, data-informed models of care. He is an active contributor to national and international forums on mental health, ethics, and digital transformation, and advocates for a vision of “humane technology” that strengthens, rather than replaces, the therapeutic alliance. His research interests include psychotherapy, clinical health psychology, digital mental health, AI-assisted therapy, and criminal psychology—fields through which he aims to advance resilient, inclusive, and ethically guided approaches to psychological well-being.
