Yvonne Jewkes

Yvonne Jewkes is Professor of Criminology at the University of Bath, and a leading expert in prison architecture and design. She has worked as a consultant on custodial environments for men, women and children in all jurisdictions of the UK and Ireland, and in many countries around the world. One of her most recent projects was assisting on the design of the new Limerick women’s prison, a trauma-informed facility for which she won two prestigious prizes; the ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize and the MRS President’s Medal. She has conducted extensive prison research over 25 years, including in the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark. Yvonne has published many scholarly works on the rehabilitative potential of prison design, and is currently writing a book about her career, and her life, for a non-academic audience.
