The Road to Employment: Using Collaborative Partnerships to Improve Employment Outcomes for Prisoners (PID323)

9.45am – 10.30am GMT, 28 October 2026 ‐ 45 mins

Room: Hall 1A (Level 1)

Plenary Session

This plenary session will explore how Northern Ireland Prison Service is beginning to work in new ways to improve the employability of prisoners and ex-offenders, with a greater focus on cross-sectoral working in three key areas:

•    Accredited educational programmes and vocational skills development,
•    Readiness for work including confidence building and peer support
•    Progression into employment through new employer pathways

The session will involve the key partners involved in this work and will reflect openly and honestly on the barriers to more collaborative work, including differing organisational perspectives on the key challenges and opportunities in working in this way. It will provide practical insights for prisons and for other organisations seeking to use cross-sectoral partnerships to support rehabilitation and reduce reoffending.
