Dr Kevin Bradley is a practicing Architect and tutor in architectural design. His practice, research, and teaching centers on design enabling social change across justice and housing sectors. His practice prioritises lived-experience, place-based knowledge, and co-design methodologies to conceptualise new environments. 

Roberta Somlo

Senior Project Architect, Parkin Architects, Canada

Roberta Somlo is a Canadian Architect and LEED-accredited professional who brings over 35 years of experience in planning, design and management of medium to large scale correctional and institutional projects.  Roberta is also a justice and security specialist with a wide range of justice experience, working on correctional, law enforcement, and courts facilities provincially as well as nationally. Constructed facilities include projects across Canada as well as many correctional programming and planning studies for both federal and provincial correctional clients. Roberta holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies, and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.  She is a licensed architect with the Ontario Association of Architects and an International Associate of the American Institution of Architects. Roberta is a member of the Academy of Architecture for Justice – a Knowledge Community of the American Institute of Architects – and has presented at several conferences. She is also a founding member of the Canadian Academy of Architecture for Justice and is an active member of its executive committee.

Robert Boraks

Architect, Principle, Parkin Architects, Canada

Robert Boraks is a Canadian Architect, Principle of Parkin Architects Limited and a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Azrieli School of Architecture at Carleton University. Over the course of his 35 years of professional practice, he has had the opportunity of working on numerous building typologies and various forms of project delivery. All his work is associated with delivery of “social architecture – that is, institutional responses meant to improve the human condition. As part of those efforts, he has developed a keen interest in the advancement corrections design as well as working with aboriginal peoples. He has participated in the design of numerous correctional facilities in Canada, the Middle East and in the Caribbean. Robert promotes the advantages of delivering effective secured environments that promote and preserve dignity for those that are incarcerated, for the staff that provides services within facilities, and to the communities that host the buildings.  His body of work has won numerous international design awards including the Citation for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects/AAJ University. He is a frequent presenter at international conferences. He holds degrees in architecture and in science from the University of Toronto.
