Plenary Session

The pace of development of technology like VR and other applications to support psycho-educational and therapeutic interventions in corrections is now very rapid. The development of practice models that incorporate digital interventions, as well as policy, legal and ethical frameworks to guide and regulate their use, needs to keep pace with the levels of development of the technology itself. Recognizing this rapid emergence of ‘digital rehabilitation’ in the field of corrections, UNICRI recently commissioned an extensive international study and review of the issues. The UNICRI report on Digital Rehabilitation in Prisons is scheduled to be published in March, and will be shared at the Conference. This workshop will highlight some of the issues raised in the report regarding application of technology in psychoeducational approaches. The latest developments in several practical models such as those from Finland will be profiled, and issues to keep in mind when implementing them discussed, such as data privacy and security, quality standards and accreditation, and practice guidelines.
