Suicide and Self-Harm in NI Prisons – The Impact of Person-Centred Delivery (PID300)

11am – 11.30am GMT, 28 October 2026 ‐ 30 mins

Room: Meeting Room 3B (Level 3)

Parallel Workshops

This session focuses on the significant change achieved through the introduction of a collaborative, person-centred approach to supporting individuals within our prisoner community who may be at risk of suicide or self-harm.

It highlights the importance of learning from best practice, listening to the experiences of prisoners, and actively involving both prisoners and staff in the design and development of the approach. The session also explores the value of continuous improvement through an iterative journey of learning and adaptation. As a result, resources are now targeted more effectively towards those most in need, contributing to consistently low levels of self-harm despite a significant increase in the prison population.
