The role of Strategic Planning for Electronic Security Management is often put to the "bottom of the heap" due to the pressure of getting todays’ problems solved and the short-term budgeting processes. The rapid development of electronic technology is seeing the electronic security systems becoming out of date within seven years with the prospect of this time frame becoming shorter. A range of challenges in the procurement, operation and refreshment requirements for managing the electronic security of correctional facilities can be addressed by undertaking a Strategic Planning process.
