This session explores the unique role of the Northern Ireland Prison Service Central Benevolent Fund, established in response to the devastating impact of the Troubles on prison staff and their families. Formed to provide practical, financial, and emotional support to those affected by injury, bereavement, and hardship, the Fund has grown into a well-established organisation serving staff, retirees, widows, and families across the Service.
The presentation will examine its history, development, and ongoing work, including welfare support, respite accommodation, fundraising initiatives, and the annual Memorial Service. It highlights the enduring values of remembrance, solidarity, and support within the prison community.
