Designing Digital Programs for Community Based Offenders: Learnings from the pilot of a forensic drug treatment program (PID044)

1.50pm – 2.25pm ACST, 24 May 2023 ‐ 35 mins

Parallel Workshops

The Covid pandemic has provided an opportunity to re-think how group forensic programs are delivered. Covid has shown the power of telehealth to deliver treatment, but many telehealth group programs struggle to deliver program integrity & keep participants engaged. In 2022 Caraniche developed a ‘designed for digital’ variant of KickStart Group AOD program for community-based offenders.

Caraniche’s Manager of Program Design, with the CEO of digital platform Tacklit, will detail how the program was adapted for remote delivery with digital enhancements, including built-in tracking, data collection, engagement tools & activities. The presentation will focus on the design & development process, the outcomes of the pilot & the key challenges & learnings about how best to successfully implement a digital program with a cohort of offenders. Benefits of digital enhancements for clients, clinicians & community corrections are explored, with next steps in the development of digital programs.
