Dr Emma Gardner is the Director of Mental Health and Addiction Services at the Department of Corrections, New Zealand. She is a Registered Clinical Psychologist and has a PhD in Psychology. She was first registered as a Psychologist in 2004. Dr Gardner has spent her career working with people who offend. She spent 12 years working as a Clinical Psychologist for the Forensic Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service at Capital & Coast District Health Board, New Zealand. She was the co-Clinical Leader for the Forensic Intellectual Disability Secure Service at Capital & Coast District Health Board, New Zealand for four years (2014-2018). She then worked as the Manager Medium Intensity Treatment Programmes for the Department of Corrections, before taking on her current role as Director of Mental Health and Addiction Services in 2020. Her current position is responsible for the delivery of mental health and addiction services within Corrections, New Zealand. She leads an Addiction Services Team, a Mental Health Quality and Practice Team and a Mental Health Operations Team. These teams are responsible for quality assurance, governance, service improvement and operational delivery of Corrections mental health and addiction services in prison and in the community.
