The European Union and United Nations joint global initiative addresses the issue of terrorism and violent extremism, interventions and encompasses broader prison reform.

This joint global initiative has supported Kazakhstan, Tunisia, and Uganda in strengthening the resilience of societies against terrorism, violent extremism, and radicalization to violence in prisons, in full compliance with international standards, including the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (the Nelson Mandela Rules), with due attention given to age and gender considerations.
