Scope
 
The ICPA Communications and Media Group is a global forum for collaboration amongst public sector correctional media professionals. Through the Group, the ICPA will provide opportunities for increased communication and engagement between public sector officials and other key partners, including community organizations. The Group will also members to engage with, and share best practice through, the ICPA’s communications and media platforms, including social media, newsletters, and the ICPA website.
 
Aim
 
The Communications and Media Group aims to enhance communication and engagement with the public sector on correctional best practice by sharing relevant information, networking, and discussing challenges and opportunities in the sector.
 
 
Membership
 
Membership will be senior media and communications professionals from the public sector. Membership may be extended to the not-for-profit sector once established. Members will be asked to self-nominate from ICPA member agencies. The Group will be chaired by the Executive Director, ICPA.
 
Meetings
 
Meetings will occur four times a year over Zoom (ICPA will facilitate the meetings). Meetings will focus on discussion and engagement on challenges, opportunities, and the objectives listed below.
 
Objectives
 
Through the Communications and Media Group, the ICPA aims to:
  • Create a forum for sharing of ideas, challenges, best practice, and success stories amongst media professionals.
  • Improve consistency of engagement amongst ICPA member countries on relevant campaigns, awareness days, and cross-platform content sharing.
  • Increase ICPA access to best-practice information that can be shared with a global audience, especially in relation to ICPA conference presentations.
  • Develop a content strategy that includes regular newsletters, blog posts, and other forms of digital content to keep the public sector informed and engaged and highlight best practices in the sector. 
  • Conduct surveys and focus groups to gather feedback from the public sector and incorporate their insights into communication strategies.
  • Establish partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders to expand the reach of the group and increase engagement with the public sector.
