"Diete Humblet is affiliated as a postdoctoral researcher to the research group ‘Crime and Society’ (CriS) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and is partially affiliated as a researcher to the centre of expertise on older adult care (EXP-O) at Odisee university of applied sciences. She obtained her PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2018 on the basis of an ethnographic research in two Belgian prisons into the meaning of imprisonment in later life later. She is author of the book 'The Older Prisoner' (2021) and (co-)author of several publications on ageing in prison. She is currently the principal investigator of project 'Oscar': a practice-oriented research project at Odisee (2019-21), which is aimed at introducing and professionalizing penitentiary elderly care in the Belgian prison context. She was recently granted a fellowship to conduct a study on ageism in prison in Belgium (FWO, 2021-23). Her first main interest and research field covers integrated interdisciplinary research about subject matters of high social, legal, ethical, and medical pertinence. Special interest goes out to individuals who are spending the later stages of their life in prison."
