Dr. Donna Royer-Powe is a trailblazer in Jamaican Correctional Healthcare. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, where she pursued undergraduate and graduate studies .As the first and longest-serving woman to lead the Department of Corrections' Medical Services, she oversees healthcare across 10 Correctional Centres located across four parishes. In a male-dominated field, Dr. Royer-Powe has championed transformative initiatives, one of which included expanding access to gynecological care for female prisoners.

Dr. Royer-Powe's journey has not been without challenges, including facing harassment and discrimination as a woman. However, her unwavering dedication to improving prison healthcare has made her a respected role model. She has provided services for over 20 years in the correctional field, which has inspired several young physicians to join the Correctional Healthcare team, especially young women. A recognized public health expert, she has provided medical services to people living with HIV for twenty years, showcasing her commitment to vulnerable populations. Dr. Royer-Powe has presented her knowledge of HIV and public health in Jamaica at several conferences.
