Abstract
Post-pandemic skills shortages present a unique opportunity to encourage and incentivise employers to look beyond their usual sources of employees and to seek out alternative, previously untapped sources of talent including those with criminal histories. This paper highlights innovative approaches taken in the Irish criminal justice system to pro-actively support the employment of people post release from prison by making changes to how goods and services are purchased. This newly implemented approach provides a mechanism to support the reduction of re-offending rates, supports re-integration, and allows people with criminal histories to become active, contributory members of society.
