Richard joined the Irish Prison Service (IPS) in 1990 and has worked at a broad range of grades and disciplines within in a number of prisons. He previously specialised in learning and development during his tenure in the IPS College where he managed the design, delivery and evaluation of further and higher education programmes for all grades of prison service staff. Richard is currently in an operational management role in Limerick Prison. In 2014, Richard was awarded a Research PhD Scholarship in the Research Cluster Emotions and Society at the School of Law, UL. His research focus is on exploring the emotion- work strategies Irish Prison Officers employ, how their work impacts on them and subsequently if there are any significant consequences that impacts on their professional relationships, social interactions, family life or friendships.
