How Connection Can Improve Outcomes for Correctional Staff and Incarcerated Individuals

As Deputy Director of the Idaho Department of Correction, Bree takes a purpose-driven approach to the implementation of operational reforms that improve public safety outcomes for Idahoans. She currently oversees the divisions of probation & parole and prisons.
Bree joined IDOC in April of 2019 from the Council of State Governments Justice Center. While with the Justice Center, she helped more than a dozen state correctional agencies plan and implement large-scale criminal justice reforms. She did so by working closely with judges, legislators, and criminal justice administrators. She also managed teams that provided technical assistance to governmental executives who were on then frontlines of implementing policy reforms.
Bree has more than 25 years of experience working in corrections and behavioral health. She began her career with the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. She later worked at a private psychiatric hospital and at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections. During her 10 years with RIDOC, Bree worked as a researcher and mental health clinician.
Bree specializes in effective practices in correctional assessment, programming, and supervision. She has spoken at national conferences on these topics as well as gender-responsive approaches, reentry, and vicarious trauma.
Bree is a licensed mental health counselor. She has a master’s degree in counseling and a certificate of advanced graduated study in mental health counseling.
