ICPA Elects New Vice President and Board Members at Singapore AGM
The International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) has elected a new Vice President and welcomed two new board members, while also re-electing a current member for another term.
New Vice President: Kim Ekhaugen
We are pleased to announce the election of Kim Ekhaugen as the new Vice President of ICPA. As the Director of International Cooperation at the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service (DNCS), Kim brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to this role. His significant international experience in corrections and his long-standing support for ICPA make him an ideal candidate for this position. Kim has been an active ICPA Board Member since 2021 and has represented the organization at various international events. His expertise will be invaluable in furthering ICPA's mission, representing not only the organization but also his service, country, and the broader European corrections community. Kim's election as Vice President promises to bring fresh insights and strong leadership to ICPA, enhancing our ability to promote ethical, efficient, and effective correctional practices worldwide.
"First, I would like to thank ICPA for the trust I have received in my new role as VP. ICPA has a particularly important role in the development of future Correctional services. ICPA builds bridges and makes contacts between countries, continents and different cultures. I will do my utmost to continue the good tradition in ICPA," said Kim Ekhaugen, the new Vice President.
New Board Members
1. Fatih Güngör
Fatih Güngör, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses in Türkiye, has been elected as a new board member. With 20 years of experience in criminal justice, prison, and probation systems, Fatih Güngör brings a wealth of knowledge to ICPA.
Güngör's nomination highlighted his extensive experience in managing European Union projects in Türkiye, demonstrating his ability to handle complex initiatives with diverse stakeholders. His 15-year career in Turkish Correctional Services, including his current role as Deputy Director General since September 2022, showcases his leadership skills and alignment with ICPA's values.
"I am deeply honored to be entrusted with a role on the ICPA Board of Directors. With 20 years of experience in the criminal justice, prison, and probation systems, I am eager to contribute to ICPA's vision of advancing humane and effective correctional practices. Together with all stakeholders, we aim to promote the best practices globally," said Fatih Güngör.
2. Nadya Radkovska
Nadya Radkovska, Commissioner and Head of the International Cooperation and Training of Staff department at the General Directorate "Execution of Sentences" in Bulgaria, joins the ICPA Board with over 21 years of experience in the correctional field.
Radkovska's nomination emphasized her deep knowledge of the global prison and correctional area, her contributions to significant reforms in Bulgaria's criminal justice sector, and her expertise in international relations and project management. Her current focus on "greening" prisons in Bulgaria demonstrates her commitment to innovative approaches in corrections.
"It is a great honour for me to join the Board of Directors of the International Corrections and Prison Association (ICPA) which encompasses the largest professional community dedicated to advancing correctional standards and practices. I trust that together we can promote collaboration and advocate for innovative and humane practices in criminal justice worldwide," Radkovska stated.
Re-elected Board Member: Shie Yong Lee
Shie Yong Lee, Commissioner of the Singapore Prison Service, has been re-elected for another term on the ICPA Board. Lee, who first joined the board in 2020, brings 29 years of experience in corrections to her role.
Under Lee's leadership, the Singapore Prison Service has continued important reforms and introduced new innovations, making it a leader in offender rehabilitation and reintegration. Her proactive approach to contemporary corrections and excellent leadership skills make her a valuable asset to ICPA.
"I am honoured to be re-elected as a Board Member of ICPA. Since joining the Board in 2020, I've witnessed firsthand the good work ICPA does in bringing together international corrections professionals from the public, private and people sectors to advance more effective correctional policies and management. I look forward to contributing and continuing ICPA's efforts in sharing best practices and fostering valuable partnerships with fellow corrections professionals," Lee commented.
