ICPA Provides Leadership Training for Civil Servants in Moldova

Between 13 and 24 September this year, civil servants with special status in the penitentiary administration system participate in training, held at the National Administration of Penitentiaries (ANP) Training Center in Moldova.

Between 13 and 24 September 2021, civil servants with special status in the penitentiary administration system participated in a training held at the National Administration of Penitentiaries (ANP) Training Center in Moldova.

Members of the International Association of Corrections and Penitentiaries (ICPA) – Garry Hill, Dorin Mureșan, Horia Chis (Prison Governor, Baia Mare), and Ioan Bătinaș (former Director of Gherla Penitentiary, Romania) led the sessions. The course was for staff at managerial positions within the prison administration system. It aimed to strengthen their techniques and tools of activity so that the team could use them effectively by applying management standards and identifying leadership styles appropriate to each situation. At the beginning of the training, Mr Dorin Lișman, the Director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries, welcomed the initiative and expressed his support to the officials looking to familiarise themselves with the current trends in organisational leadership, effective decision-making, and successful teams.

The training session includes topics in the field of prison management, organisational culture, mediation of problems and decision making, change management, processes and management relations; the central role and qualities of a leader; interpersonal and anti-discrimination communication in prisons, to name a few. At the end of the course, participants will receive certificates of participation, learning materials, and studies related to the penitentiary field.
