Learning Inside Out (LIO) Offers Education and Study Counselling to Inmates in All Prisons in Flanders and Brussels

Benedicte De Bock took her first steps inside the prison in 2012. Back then, she accompanied inmates in their search for work. In 2014, she switched to education and became education coordinator. Between 2014 and 2021, she was active in four different prisons: Ghent, Antwerp and Dendermonde (remand), Oudenaarde (long-term detainees). Since January 2021, she has been full-time project coordinator for the LIO project (Learning inside out). LIO is a collaboration between several partners: Vocvo - member of EPEA - Justice Belgium, Leerwinkels, Groep Intro and Klasbak. LIO is a service that takes place in all Flemish and Brussels prisons. As coordinator, her task is to monitor the work of the educational counsellors. She will also ensure that the objectives of the project are respected with the focus being to provide customisation within the detainee's educational pathway.
