Suzann Cordeiro is a Professor in the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Federal University of Alagoas, Brazil, and the coordinator of the Centre for Research on Special Institutional Design (NuPPES) and of the Prison and Juvenile Detention Architecture Laboratory of Penal Management (Labgepen) at the University of Brasília. She holds a PhD in Psychology and a Master’s in Architecture and Urban Planning (both from Brazil), as well as a postdoctoral qualification in Criminology and Human Rights from KU Leuven, Belgium.

She serves as a member of the National Council for Criminal and Penitentiary Policy and works as a consultant and author of penal architecture projects in South America and Africa. Currently, she is a consultant for the National Council of Justice and the United Nations Development Programme, contributing to the Fair Punishment Program and developing a Real Vacancy Verification Toolkit for the semi-open regime of the Brazilian prison system.
