Kelly Hannah-Moffat is a professor in Criminology & Sociolegal Studies and vice president of People Strategy, Equity & Culture at the University of Toronto. Where she oversees Human resources, labour relations, equity and Indigenous initiatives and high risk and crisis management. Her interdisciplinary academic scholarship focuses on criminal records disclosures, big data algorithms, solitary confinement, and institutional risk management practices, including how those processes produce gender and racial inequalities.

Professor Hannah-Moffat also serves on several international editorial boards and is the former co-editor of Punishment and Society. She was a policy advisor and expert witness for several cases related to the use of segregation, deaths in custody, risk assessment, strip searches and conditions of confinement. She works with both government and non-profit organizations on criminal justice reform, risk assessment and prison oversight; most recently with the Department of Justice, Ministry of the Solicitor General, Auditor General, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Canadian Association of Civil Liberties. In 2018 she had a two-year Order in Council Appointment an Independent Expert to assist in the implementing the terms of the Jahn consent order. She was an also a policy for the Arbour Commission. In 2019, she was awarded Law and Society Association International Prize For significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of law and society.
