LEE Kit-shan Yvonne, PhD, Senior Clinical Psychologist and Co-ordinator of the Correctional Rehabilitation Research Unit, is dedicated to supporting persons in custody (PICs) along their journey towards rehabilitation, reintegration and desistance through evidence-based rehabilitative and psychological interventions. With a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology and over 25 years of service in the Hong Kong Correctional Services Department, Dr LEE specialises in psychological assessment and treatment for PICs convicted of serious violent and sexual offences as well as for young PICs. As an advocate of the scientist-practitioner approach, she has contributed significantly to the development and validation of risk-needs assessment scales for violent and sexual re-offending, spearheading the residential treatment unit for PICs with sexual convictions alongside an international expert panel, organising professional seminars to enhance multi-disciplinary collaboration in crime prevention, as well as establishing the innovative male treatment unit Life Gym that integrates positive masculinity into psychological intervention. Her recent research focuses on desistance from crime, investigating factors that promote or hinder the winding desistance process. She has introduced new initiatives to cultivate a rehabilitative culture within young offender institutions and advance youth-responsive desistance interventions with character strength building, modern technology and therapeutic sports, ensuring a seamless transition from correctional care to community reintegration. Her ultimate mission is to foster a safer and more inclusive society in Hong Kong.
