Rayong Central Prison and Khao Mai Kaew Temporary Prison
Established in 2004, Rayong Central Prison is a maximum-security facility in Rayong Province, spanning 803 acres. It is designed to manage high-risk inmates, including those involved in serious drug offenses and organized crime. The prison emphasizes a balance between stringent security measures and meaningful rehabilitation programs to prepare inmates for reintegration into society. The facility is located 180 km from the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok, with a travel time of approximately 3 hours.
Rayong Central Prison and its affiliated Khao Mai Kaew Temporary Prison collaborate to ensure effective inmate management and rehabilitation. Rayong Central Prison Maximum Security Zone (Zone 6) Includes a lobby, laundry facilities, and a central control center. Communal cells housing 192 inmates per floor, with recreational amenities such as a basketball court and sanitation facilities. Solitary confinement cells for 60 inmates, each designed for single occupancy. For Security Measures: The Security Zone is equipped with advanced electronic surveillance systems, including interactive CCTV and remote-controlled cell doors, ensuring rigorous security and effective management of high-risk inmates. Rayong Central Prison also include Khao Mai Kaew Temporary Prison for pre-release programme for inmates from this facility spanning 660 acres is an integral part of Rayong Central Prison’s pre-release program.
The facility emphasizes rehabilitation through agricultural training, self-sufficiency, and vocational development. Inspired by Thailand’s sufficiency economy philosophy, inmates receive training in farming, livestock management, and sustainable practices. hands-on vocational opportunities such as “Coffee Khao Mai Kaew,” where inmates develop skills in food service and hospitality. These programs prepare inmates for successful reintegration into society, equipping them with practical expertise and confidence for life after release.
