ACLU: Captive Labor: Exploitation of Incarcerated Workers
This webinar will provide a deep dive into new research from the ACLU and the University of Chicago Law School on prison labor in the U.S. We will share key findings and actionable learnings from the new nationwide study, “Captive Labor: Exploitation of Incarcerated Workers.”
Bringing together interviews and surveys of incarcerated workers, analysis of government data, desk research, and policy review, this comprehensive study examined these critical areas at the federal and state levels:
- Scope and types of prison labor, including during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Wages paid across federal and state facilities
- Dangerous work conditions and lack of protections
- Race, gender, and disability discrimination in work assignments
- The lack of jobs that provide skills for employment upon release
And more...
Researchers will be joined by national and state advocates to discuss the current challenges and opportunities in prison labor policy, including the proposed federal Abolition Amendment.
Disability Access and Reasonable Accommodations: The ACLU strives to create inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to fully engage with the programming. This meeting will be held virtually over Zoom. It will include phone and computer dial-in numbers. Captioning will be provided. There is an opportunity to request other accommodations as part of the registration information you provide.
